Workout Intervals
To make these exercises really pop and help boost your metabolism, you are going to turn them into intervals. I have listed 9 different exercises below with links to a video for each. You can pair them up in any way you like. Pick 3 from the list of 9.
Next, decide on your interval time. Mostly the time you choose will be specific to your goals. However, if you are a beginner I would stick with the easiest time 15:15.
If you are looking to improve pure speed and power keep the work phase short 10-20 seconds and your rest time just long enough to catch your breath and go again. 10-15 seconds. Repeat for as many rounds as possible before you start to slow down and can't keep up with the reps you were doing in the beginning.
If you are looking to improve the anaerobic system you will want your work phase to be anywhere from 20-45s rest long enough to catch your breath. 15-25s. Repeat for 2-4 rounds.
Remember, the rest times and round length are just suggestions work within your limits.
Exercises
As you go through the exercises they are meant to be done quickly. You may need to take the push up into the elevated position to be able to do it fast enough to make it effective for intervals. Same with the lunge that may not be an appropriate exercise for you if you can not do them quickly.
Feel free to substitute exercises as needed.
Quality over Quantity always. Never give up your form for more reps, that's were the injury and overuse issues begin.
Even if you can't commit to a full workout, squeezing in small bouts of activity can make a big difference in your overall health and energy levels. Research shows that short bursts of exercise can improve cardiovascular fitness, help manage weight, and give your metabolism a much-needed boost.
