Tight Hips

1

Having tight hips is a very common problem and the real problem is the fact that most people do not even know they are tight through this region.  Tightness in the hip area can lead to a host of other problems such as knee, shoulder and low back pain.

Two of my favorite mobility exercises for the hip are hip swings and bench slides, check out the videos below:

I usually perform hip swings for time, about 30 seconds per side anywhere from 1-3 sets.  Start slow and increase the intensity of the exercise as the body warms up.

Bench Slides are the second exercise.

This exercise will work the adductors as well as the deep rotators of the hip if you stay low on the side to side movement.  I generally try to do 1-2 sets of about 6-8 reps per side.

These exercises can be done everyday, give them a try for the next few weeks and see how well your hips loosen up.  But it is also important to understand that both of these exercises work the body in the frontal plane and it is important to work all planes to have total hip relief.

Stay Motivated,

Karen
