Trick the Appetite

Maybe you are going to a party or out to dinner or maybe just staying in for the night.  No matter what you are doing, you want to make sure you have your appetite under control before the weekend hits.  My clients often tell my how great they do during the week then the weekend hits, and all of their eating habits fall apart.

I have put together 5 things you can do to help get your weekend started off the right way:

  1. When you leave the house Saturday for your all day shopping trip (or whatever you are doing) pack a cooler filled with healthy snacks and water.  So long as you have food and drink available you will not be as tempted to stop at every snack shack you come across.
  2. Never leave the house hungry.  Make sure you have eaten before you leave the house so you are not tempted to stop and eat out.  Also plan your trip early in the day after breakfast so you are not out running around at meal time.
  3. If you are staying in and a craving hits make yourself very busy.  Stop what you are doing and go find something else to do until the craving is gone.  In a lot of cases whatever you were doing could have been what brought on the craving in the first place.
  4. When you arrive at the party Saturday night fill your plate once and then leave the room all together.  At most parties you will always find some people who mingle around the food table and never leave that room.  Enjoy the party in a different room.
  5. If you are going to a party and you know the food will be unhealthy offer to help and bring a fruit or vegetable tray, at least then you know you will have something to eat.
